Getting Started
About the Boxes: The boxes are made from 1/16" thick corrugated cardboard. The dimensions are 8" long, 4-7/8" wide and 5-1/4" high measured from the base to the crease where the walls meet the roofs. From that crease to the top of the handle is 4-3/4". The slot in the front roof for depositing money in the house is 2" long. Boxes are shipped flat, are pre-scored for easy assembly and shipped in cartons of 25 boxes and 100 boxes. Except for the back roof, the boxes are blank and ready to be decorated. The back roof is printed with the text above. For special orders, the text and logo on the back of the box can be customized to your organization for an additional charge. For special orders or additional information, please contact us.
Teachable Opportunity: Houses for Change provides an opportunity to teach participants about homelessness and how the money they save in their boxes will help homeless families. For teaching materials, click on: Communication: Give or email participants a letter explaining the project, how the boxes are to be used and when they will be collected. Use the Houses for Change poster at your box-making event. Virtual Fundraising: Suggest participants use social networking to encourage donations from friends and family who may not be able to contribute in person. Organizations can also create their own webpage that participants can send to solicit online donations. The webpage could include photos or a video of boxmakers and their boxes, a statement about the project and a link to the organization's credit/debit card processor. Public Relations: Let others know about this innovative, fun way to help homeless families. Contact the media to do a human interest story about your project. Have a local art gallery exhibit your boxes. Ask participants to add Family Promise to their Facebook and Twitter pages and to email their friends and relatives to encourage them to organize a Houses for Change project in their community. Please send a link to news stories about your Houses for Change project to housesforchange@familypromise.org and share your photos and experiences on Facebook and Twitter! |
