East San Fernando Valley, CA: Affiliate #158
Family Promise of East San Fernando Valley includes Burbank, Sun Valley, North Hollywood, Glendale, Toluca Lake and Eagle Rock. It becomes the fourth Affiliate in California and the first in greater Los Angeles.
Estimates put the number of homeless children in Los Angeles County at 8,000. In the spring of 2008, Jenny Smith, a graphic designer with a degree in theology, knew of IHN from Princeton Seminary and became Board President. In just over two years, ESFV opened their doors with 11 congregations and a Day Center provided by the city of Burbank. Marsha Ramos, former mayor of Burbank, was a key figure in the network’s development and sits on the Board. Jaci White, a social worker transplanted from Chicago, is the Director.
The first guest family was a mom and her 12-year-old son. They had relocated from Kentucky but the job she came to Los Angeles for was no longer available when she arrived. She managed to find work at a computer company but had gone through her savings already. Eight days after entering the program, she secured housing and ESFV graduated its first family!
Welcome, Family Promise of East San Fernando Valley.
