Cara is a fundraising and communications professional who has worked with international non-profits to address issues of children’s rights and refugee resettlement, and in higher education to promote interfaith peace-building and community engagement. A believer in the power of storytelling, Cara also spent several years as a community reporter.
As a pastor’s daughter, Cara grew up in the northeast fishing town of Gloucester, MA in a congregation actively involved in social justice. She studied Political Science and Spanish at Drew University. Through a graduate program in International Affairs at the The New School, Cara engaged in efforts to empower marginalized communities through storytelling and media. She was introduced to Family Promise through Just Neighbors, a program which examines the root causes of poverty and homelessness. Cara promoted the curriculum in Northern Jersey and began volunteering with a host congregation. Prior to joining Family Promise as Director of Development in 2015, Cara served as Director of Community Relations and Strategic Partnerships at Drew University.
Cara enjoys writing, mountain biking, and hiking. She lives in Morris County with her husband, a professor at Drew, two boys, and three wily pets.
