The Latest on the Eviction Moratorium
On August 26, the Supreme Court overturned the eviction moratorium. Family Promise disagrees with this ruling and is concerned for the millions of renters, many of them families, at risk of eviction.
If you or a loved one are facing an eviction, make sure you have applied for rental assistance in your state, and seek help from a legal aid organization right away. Contact the local Family Promise in your area if you need help preventing an eviction or accessing services.
Evictions are costly and traumatic for families, and expensive for landlords, too. Evictions are a root cause of homelessness, and they are a racial justice and gender equality issue. Nationwide, eviction filing rates against Black renters are twice as high as for white renters. Low-income women are evicted at much higher rates than men. The single greatest predictor of eviction is the presence of a child. Combatting evictions is central to the work we do at Family Promise.
