Home Is Where the Art Is!

Home Is Where the Art Is! is a chance for Progressive families to create art that can be donated to families transitioning into new housing with Family Promise. Your creations can make a family’s new surroundings feel more like a home. For those who don’t consider themselves an artist but are still interested in making a contribution, please consider donating funds to purchase art supplies. Families can use these supplies to create their own artwork as they settle into their new home!

Family Promise

Karen Olson founded Family Promise in 1988 as a local movement in Summit, NJ. Today, Family Promise has become a national network that spans 200+ Affiliates in 43 states working to help low-income families and families experiencing homelessness. Through our holistic approach, we provide families with the services they need to find secure housing and stability.

Understanding Family Homelessness

Every year, more than 2.5 million children in America experience homelessness, and one in 19 will experience homelessness before they reach the first grade. These children are three times more likely to be placed in special education programs and eight to nine times more likely to repeat a grade. 42% of children experiencing homelessness will drop out of school at some point and 47% suffer from anxiety, depression, or withdrawal. Homelessness can set children up for a future filled with challenges, but we believe no child’s future should be determined by their housing status. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated an already growing affordable housing crisis putting more families than ever at risk of experiencing homelessness. Family Promise Affiliates nationwide have worked tirelessly to ramp up services and meet the increased need for our services.

Our Services

Prevention and Diversion

We are there when a family’s homelessness is imminent, and we work to avoid the trauma of a family losing their housing. Our Affiliates do this through case management, rental assistance, and providing alternatives to shelter.

Shelter

Family Promise offers a holistic solution to family homelessness and our shelter models ensure the right fit for a family. Affiliates operate rotational shelter, stable shelter, temporary apartments, and/or motel stays.

Stabilization

Programming after shelter provides continued support and reduces the risk of a family’s re-entry into homelessness. In addition to the many initiatives and programs available when families reach out to us in crisis, we organize  communities to offer food pantries, diaper banks, holiday gift drives, and more.

Our Impact

Facing another year of the pandemic, the end to the federal eviction moratorium, and rising housing costs, Family Promise Affiliates across the country shifted their services to meet the growing number of families at risk of eviction and homelessness. As the leading national organization addressing family homelessness, we have relied on our innovative community of volunteers, donors, and staff to serve thousands of families over the past year. We continue to see tremendous growth in our Affiliates as we work toward our goal of changing the future for 1 million children by 2030.
