Karen Olson is the Founder and President Emeritus of Family Promise, a national nonprofit organization, started in Union County, NJ, committed to helping families experiencing homelessness nationwide achieve lasting independence. Family Promise has over 200 Affiliates in 43 states and has served over one million individuals by mobilizing more than 200,000 volunteers from congregations and communities who provide shelter, meals, and support services to families.
A former manager at Warner Lambert, Karen Olson has been working on behalf of the poor and homeless since the mid-1980s. She has received numerous awards for her work, among them the 1992 Annual Points of Light Award from former President George H.W. Bush, the New Jersey Governor’s Pride Award in Social Services, and the Jefferson Award from the American Institute for Public Service
