A Night of Giving

November 5, 2019

It was an evening of celebration and giving at Summit House last Friday night.

Guests packed the house for Family Promise’s “Night of Giving” gala, the festive culmination of the organization’s first-ever national Giving Day on Friday, October 25. The event was sponsored by more than a dozen local and national organizations, including 20 Gates, Belk, Hardman Johnston Global Advisors, and the Barer Family Foundation.

Summit-based Family Promise, the leading national nonprofit addressing the crisis of family homelessness, engaged friends and supporters to raise money to benefit families facing a housing crisis. Close to 100 Family Promise affiliates across the country participated in the one-day online event, which raised more than $500,000.

“Our goal with Giving Day was not only to raise money for families in need, but to raise awareness of a crisis that affects one in 19 children in this country,” says Family Promise Chief Impact Officer Cara Bradshaw. “We want every child to have hope for the future, and this happens when families have support, stability, and the opportunity to develop the tools and skills necessary to achieve lasting independence.”

Summit House closed its doors for the event and kicked off the evening with its trademark creative American fare and specialty cocktails crafted for the occasion. Music by local DJ Declan Ryan set the mood and enticed guests onto the dance floor.

“We appreciate opportunities like this to collaborate with local businesses for a good cause,” says Corina Borg, Family Promise manager of special events. “Family Promise is all about community, and partnerships like this solidify those relationships.”

Founded in Summit in 1988, Family Promise has more than 200 Affiliates in communities across the country. The organization has served nearly one million family members since its founding and engages 200,000 volunteers. Its innovative approach to addressing homelessness keeps families together and ensures their return to independence and stability through a holistic program that focuses on the root causes of homelessness.
