This Father’s Day, Family Promise honors dads everywhere who work hard to make this world a better place – including people like Sam Gloyd, a father of three and Family Promise volunteer who has found a unique way to make a difference for families battling homelessness.
Gloyd, a 74-year-old volunteer at Family Promise Metrowest, MA, and an avid cyclist, is biking cross-country to raise awareness about the crisis of family homelessness. He began his solo adventure in Massachusetts earlier this month and will stop at several Family Promise Affiliates as he makes his way to the West Coast, learning about the families they serve and the challenges they face in different regions of the country. He also plans to reconnect with family and friends along the way.
Says Gloyd of Family Promise, “It is like the family that everybody should experience.”
Gloyd is thrilled to know he’ll have “family” along his entire route. When he visits Affiliates, he’ll be welcomed with a hot meal, a shower, and a place to pitch his tent, giving him the opportunity to get to know the Family Promise community across the country.
You can follow Gloyd as he peddles 3,000 miles across the country, making stops in Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Montana, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
Happy Father’s Day to dads like Sam Gloyd who give families hope for the future and the promise of home!
