Summit, NJ — Family Promise has received a $10,000 grant from the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) Foundation. During these difficult times, the NBPA Foundation grant will bolster Family Promise’s work with families experiencing homelessness and provide resources for prevention services before families reach crisis and for stabilization programs once families have secured housing to ensure they remain independent. It will also help inform how the organization addresses issues of equity defined by race and the impact of racism on housing and homelessness.

We appreciate its commitment to the empowerment of children and families at these challenging times,” said Claas Ehlers, Family Promise CEO. “Given NBA players’ long history of advocacy for social justice, and the engagement of Hall-of-Famer Alex English on our board, we would say that working with the NBPA is a slam dunk—one that helps our most vulnerable families win.”
Alex English, retired NBA Hall of Fame player, assistant coach, broadcast analyst, and volunteer at Family Promise of the Midlands (Columbia, SC), joined Family Promise’s national board earlier this year. “We know that Family Promise works, and that there are tangible outcomes for families struggling with homelessness. Not every organization can say that,” said English. “This is why I got involved with Family Promise– I wanted to be able to make a difference and see positive change in my community. And Family Promise makes change happen for families and communities across the country. I’m honored and proud to be part of it.”
