New York Times: Families Across the U.S. Being Forced to Double-Up during the Pandemic

This week the New York Times published an article telling the story of families across America who, due to economic hardship caused by the pandemic, are being forced to double up.

Many of these families are living in situations without a lease and are therefore not protected from losing their housing by eviction moratoriums.

Family Promise CEO, Claas Ehlers, spoke with the New York Times about how many of the families we serve fall into this category of unprotected renters.

“Claas Ehlers, chief executive of Family Promise, a homeless-prevention nonprofit that has more than 200 affiliates in 43 states, said people without leases constituted an outsize share of the group’s requests for rental aid and assistance.”
