Family Promise, the nation’s leading nonprofit dedicated to addressing family homelessness, and Clayton, a national leader in attainable single-family housing, are expanding their longstanding partnership. Clayton is making its largest annual investment to date, combining a $2 million commitment in addition to the donation of two new homes to help keep more families safely housed and on the path to stability.
The funding will be distributed across the Family Promise national network to support both direct services and long-term growth. Of the total investment, $1.5 million will support A Future Begins at Home, a joint initiative focused on preventing families from experiencing homelessness and providing support that helps them build better futures. An additional $500,000 will fund new initiatives at Family Promise, including the development of new local sites and programs aimed at serving more families.
“This continued partnership with Clayton represents what’s possible when we invest in both prevention and growth,” said Family Promise CEO Cheryl Schuch. “Clayton’s generous support allows us to reach families earlier, expand our network, and keep more families safely housed while preventing the trauma of homelessness before it begins. Together, we’re helping families build stability and a stronger future.”
Nearly 90 percent of the Family Promise network now provides homelessness prevention programs, including eviction prevention and shelter diversion. Last year, A Future Begins at Home prevented more than 10,000 families and 18,000 children from experiencing homelessness. Crucially, more than 80 percent of families who received assistance through the initiative have achieved long-term stable housing. Since 2019, A Future Begins at Home has helped catalyze over $14 million in additional funding, serving more than 43,000 families and 69,000 children.
“We’ve seen firsthand how stable housing can change the course of a family’s life,” said Susan Brown, Clayton Director of Philanthropy. “Our partnership with Family Promise reflects a shared belief that everyone deserves a safe and secure place to call home. We’re honored to support their work and the families they serve across the country.”
Beyond its financial contributions, Clayton has also donated 20 homes to the Family Promise network since 2019. Most of these homes are used as transitional housing, allowing families to stay together while receiving case management and support services as they work toward permanent housing and serving local communities for decades to come.
