The national nonprofit raised over $120,000 through a social media event to support housing-insecure families.
SUMMIT, NJ, NOVEMBER 9, 2022 – Family homelessness is an invisible crisis that is often hidden from our view– these families are living in shelters, cars, campgrounds, or doubled up in overcrowded apartments. Leading national nonprofit, Family Promise is continuing its work to end family homelessness. On October 22nd, the nonprofit hosted its third annual Night Without a Bed– a social media campaign aimed at raising awareness on the issue of family homelessness. This year’s Night Without a Bed raised over $120,000 to help families across the country.
27 Family Promise Affiliates joined forces with the national headquarters to host the event. Participants of Night Without a Bed were asked to sleep anywhere without a bed for one night (a car, tent, couch, living room floor, etc.), use the hashtag #NightWithoutABed2022 to post a video or photo with a short description of their experiences, and challenge a friend to either participate in the event or donate to Family Promise.
Family Promise successfully partnered with social media influencers to help raise funds and awareness of family homelessness for Night Without a Bed. The organization sought to collaborate with influencers who align with the work Family Promise does. These partners included an esthetician who provides hygiene services to people experiencing homelessness on Skid Row and a mother who has fostered kids that have experienced homelessness.
“We’re so grateful to all participants who put their own comfort aside for one night in honor of families experiencing homelessness,” said Family Promise Donor Engagement Manager Corina Borg, who organized the event for the third consecutive year. “Increasing awareness about the invisible crisis of family homelessness is just as important as raising financial support, and it was incredible to see how people pitched in on both levels.”
Official sponsors for Night Without a Bed included Belk, Clayton, IKEA, Progressive, Synchrony, and Woodforest National Bank.
