Family Promise Welcomes Three New Trustees
Nonprofit organization wraps up 2019 by inducting new members to Board of Trustees
SUMMIT, NJ – January 30, 2020 – Family Promise, the nation’s leading nonprofit addressing family homelessness, ended the decade by welcoming the following three new members to its Board of Trustees.
- Sarah Bird – Community Leader and Former Partner at Hewitt Associates,
- Susan Hardwick – Chief Financial Officer at American Water Works Company,
- Tim Gamory – Chief Executive Officer of BronXchange.
Sarah Bird is a former principal of Hewitt Associates (now AON), a provider of human resources, consulting, and outsourcing solutions to the Fortune 500. She is the former chair of the Board of Trustees at the Tilton School in Tilton, NH and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Carroll County YMCA Camp Huckins in Ossipee, NH.
“After volunteering for Family Promise locally for several years, I joined the National Board because I was inspired by two things. First, I’ve been inspired by the families that Family Promise serves who are among the bravest people I’ve met in their daily struggle for what most of us take for granted – a safe and secure home for their children and a path to independence,” Bird said. “I’ve also been inspired by Family Promise itself – its staff, its volunteers, and its work to transform the lives of over 125,000 parents and children annually through community-based programs across the country. Family Promise’s vision and innovative programs to prevent family homelessness inspire me.”
“Sarah joins our board as a longtime supporter and volunteer. She also brings an impressive array of skills in human capital management, organizational effectiveness, strategic planning, and non-profit leadership,” said Claas Ehlers, chief executive officer of Family Promise. “Her talents, enthusiasm, and focus will be critical in achieving our aspiration of changing the future for one million children by 2030.”
Susan Hardwick is the Chief Financial Officer at American Water Works Company, Hardwick has served in leadership positions on a variety of community boards, including St. Mary’s Medical Center, Fifth Third Bank, the Evansville Museum of Arts, History & Science, the Evansville Celebration of Diversity Distinguished Lecture Series, Gilda’s Club of Evansville, and the Richard G. Lugar Excellence in Public Service Series, among many others over the course of her career. Appointed by the governor, Hardwick also served two terms as an Arts Commissioner for the state of Indiana and was awarded the Torchbearer Lifetime Achievement Award from the Indiana Commission on Women.
“Joining the Family Promise board has been an important opportunity for me to help further the great work of this organization. Homelessness comes in many forms for many reasons,” Hardwick said. “The mission of this organization is to prevent it. I find organizations that work to prevent issues rather than correct them are most sustainable. I am thrilled to be part of an organization focused on long term solutions.”
“Susan’s long history of leadership in the corporate sector, and her expertise in financial management, are essential components as Family Promise executes on its strategic plan,” Ehlers said. “We welcome her to our board as she continues her personal advocacy for women and families who are under-resourced and disadvantaged.”
Tim Gamory is the Chief Executive Officer of BronXchange, a social enterprise dedicated to creating a more sustainable, equitable, and democratic economy, by connecting major purchasers in the Bronx with high-road local businesses. Prior to joining the BronXchange, Tim was a founding team member and technical architect of Charity Navigator, America’s largest charity evaluator and go-to resource for philanthropists. Tim also led the development of Teach For America’s alumni network. Before joining the staff, he was a Teach For America corps member, teaching second grade in the Bronx. Tim met his wife Mary as undergraduates at Marist College and they currently reside in Orange County, New York with their three daughters.
“As the youngest in a family of six kids who lived in New York City’s public housing, I know firsthand how critical the basic right of stable affordable housing is to giving children the opportunity to reach their fullest potential,” Gamory said. “I am both honored and excited to join the board of Family Promise because the organization is dedicated to addressing not only the immediate needs of vulnerable families across the country but also working to understand and address the root causes of homelessness. I want to do whatever I can to help.”
