Family Promise and Clayton® Extend Partnership to Continue Preventing Homelessness for Families Nationwide

April 14, 2025

SUMMIT, NJ — Family Promise, the nation’s leading nonprofit dedicated to addressing family homelessness, is extending its partnership with Clayton, a national leader in attainable single-family housing, to help prevent more families from experiencing the trauma of losing their homes.

Their joint initiative, A Future Begins at Home, focuses on keeping families who are at risk of homelessness in their homes while helping them regain stability. In 2024 alone, the program prevented more than 4,100 families—including 7,800 children—from becoming homeless. Notably, more than 80 percent of families who received assistance through the initiative have achieved long-term stable housing. Since launching in 2019, A Future Begins at Home has helped secure over $14 million in additional funding, serving more than 30,000 families and 47,000 children.

“This partnership reflects Clayton’s core values,” said Susan Brown, director of philanthropy at Clayton. “We are proud to work alongside Family Promise to prevent family homelessness and ensure more families and children across the country have access to safe, stable housing.”

This year, Clayton’s generous $1.5 million donation will allow a record number of families in crisis to receive the support they need to stay together, remain housed, and work toward independence. The funding will be distributed across the Family Promise network, equipping families with essential resources to prevent homelessness and build a sustainable future. Today, approximately 90 percent of the Family Promise network offers homelessness prevention programs including eviction prevention and shelter diversion—a figure that has nearly doubled since 2019.

“Preventing homelessness before it happens is one of the most powerful ways to address the crisis,” said Family Promise CEO Cheryl Schuch. “Keeping families in their homes spares children from unnecessary stress and trauma while allowing parents to focus on regaining stability. Thanks to our partnership with Clayton, we can reach even more families in need and work toward a future where every child has a safe place to call home.”

Beyond its financial contributions, Clayton has also donated 18 homes to the Family Promise network since 2019. Most of these homes serve as transitional housing for families, allowing them to stay together while receiving case management and support services as they work toward securing permanent housing.
