Belk’s 2023 Charitable Campaigns Raise Over $400,000 Benefitting Family Promise

July 31, 2023

Family Promise and Belk continue their partnership to better serve families at risk of and experiencing homelessness.

SUMMIT, New Jersey, July 31, 2023 – In Spring of 2023, southern department store chain, Belk, donated over $400,000 to Family Promise, one of the retailer’s national charitable partners. Belk’s annual Family Promise point-of-sale campaign raised $100,000 to support the work of Family Promise Affiliates that help families achieve sustainable independence. The month-long donation event concluded on April 20, 2023, which coincided with Family Promise’s fourth annual Giving Day, a 24-hour online campaign to raise awareness and support for families facing homelessness. Belk held its Spring Charity Day Sale in May and generated an additional $300,000 to support Family Promise’s mission to empower children and families experiencing homelessness.

Family Promise and Belk’s partnership first began in 2018, and over the past five years, Belk has donated $3,729,651. The funds allow Family Promise’s southern Affiliates to provide shelter and prevention services ranging from rental assistance, financial training, workforce development, and case management for families in their communities.

“Ever since our doors opened 135 years ago, Belk has had a proud history of giving back to our communities,” said Belk CEO, Don Hendricks. “Family Promise is one of our national charitable partners, and we’re incredibly proud to support the work they do for so many families. We’re grateful for the generosity of our customers who make donations throughout these campaigns because they too see the benefits Family Promise provides.”

“We are incredibly grateful to our partner, Belk, for choosing to support us through their Charity Day Sales,” said Family Promise CEO Cheryl Schuch. “The funds raised will help families served by our Affiliates find not only a place to call home, but the support needed to build a better future.”

Families with children make up 28 percent of the nation’s homeless population. In 2022, Family Promise served more than 241,000 individuals, including over 88,000 children, the highest number they have ever served in a single year. With Belk’s support, Family Promise looks forward to helping thousands more families find a place to call home this year.
