The new off-site built home will be part of the non-profit’s transitional housing program, helping housing-insecure families in Lubbock County achieve long-term independence.
LUBBOCK, TX, December 21, 2022 – Clayton, a national builder of attainable housing, and Family Promise, a national nonprofit aimed at preventing family homelessness, are helping families achieve stable housing in Lubbock County and beyond. Clayton is donating a home to Family Promise of Lubbock in Texas, its second home donation of 2022 through the A Future Begins at Home program.
“We are most excited and honored to be a part of and witness the impact the Clayton home donation will make in our community, one family at a time.” said Valerie Longoria-Slater, Family Promise of Lubbock Executive Director. “There are over 550 identified homeless children in Lubbock Independent School District, as many families can’t keep up with the rising cost of housing. This gift comes at the height of great need and has the capability to rescue many families that will gain relief now and in the future.”
Family homelessness is an invisible crisis pervading Lubbock County, which has a poverty rate of 18.9%. 32.6% of Lubbock County residents live in cost-burdened households, where more than 30% of the total household income is spent on housing expenses – both higher than the State and National averages. Family Promise of Lubbock sites single-parent households as a contributing factor to poverty as well, with 76% of families served by the Affiliate being single-parents. Family Promise of Lubbock’s mission is to help parents overcome barriers that prevent them from obtaining or maintaining self-sufficiency.
With support from Clayton, Family Promise of Lubbock has served 23 families through temporary shelter, support, and growth opportunities so far this year. The new home from Clayton will be added to the Affiliate’s transitional housing program, which provides a supportive and temporary accommodation that bridges the gap from homelessness to permanent housing by offering structure, case management, education and training.
The home, which is Clayton’s MiYO Balance floor plan, marks the 14th home donation in Clayton’s partnership with Family Promise, and the fourth one donated in Texas. The Clayton Homes of Lubbock, TX sales location partnered with the nonprofit to complete the project. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home has several features that come in every Clayton Built® home, such as an ecobee smart thermostat, SmartComfort® by Carrier furnace, Duracraft® cabinets and more. The home also features a flex space that can adjust depending on the needs of the family moving into the transitional housing unit. This allows the Affiliate to serve a variety of family sizes.
“Our team jumped at the chance to do good with this home donation,” said Brady Garza, Clayton Homes of Lubbock, TX General Manager. “Family Promise does incredible work with families, and we are thrilled knowing this Clayton home is going to help families for many years.”
This home donation is part of a larger national partnership between Clayton and Family Promise, which works toward ending and preventing family homelessness. Through A Future Begins at Home, Clayton and Family Promise provide educational outreach and resource development, comprehensive case management, support services, and non-traditional, affordable housing solutions for graduate families, such as off-site built housing and transitional housing. In 2022, the partnership aims to prevent 1,000 families, including 2,400 children, from experiencing homelessness.
