SUMMIT, NJ, April 10, 2023 – Family Promise, the nation’s leading nonprofit addressing the crisis of family homelessness, announces the extension of its partnership with national homebuilder Clayton to enhance its homelessness prevention and stabilization program, A Future Begins at Home.

The initiative focuses on helping families at risk of homelessness regain stability and avoid the trauma of losing housing. In 2022, A Future Begins at Home helped prevent more than 2,400 families, including 4,600 children, from experiencing the trauma of homelessness. Additionally, A Future Begins at Home has catalyzed $5.4 million in partner funding since its inception.  In 2023, A Future Begins at Home aims to support more families and children through 80 grants to Family Promise Affiliates around the country and two Clayton home donations. Thanks to Clayton’s continued support, 86 percent of Family Promise Affiliates now offer homelessness prevention programs, a number that has doubled since the partnership began in 2019.

“Clayton and Family Promise believe every child deserves a home,” said Clayton CEO Kevin Clayton. “We are proud that our partnership has impacted so many families facing housing insecurity, and together we are committed to preventing even more families and children from experiencing the trauma of homelessness in the coming year.”

Through A Future Begins at Home, Family Promise Affiliates offer prevention, diversion, and stabilization services to keep families out of shelter and working toward independence.

“Prevention is one of the most powerful ways to address family homelessness,” said Family Promise CEO Cheryl Schuch. “Keeping families who are facing a housing crisis together and out of shelter allows them to focus on regaining stability and mitigates the damaging impacts of Toxic Stress on children. Our partnership with Clayton enables thousands of families to work through unprecedented challenges without the added trauma of experiencing homelessness.”

This year, Clayton will provide funding for a series of A Future Begins at Home grants. Fifty Family Promise Affiliates will receive grants for prevention and shelter diversion, and 30 will be awarded stabilization and housing grants. Combined, the 80 Affiliates will aim to serve more than 2,000 families, including 4,000 children, in 2023. Clayton will also donate two more Clayton Built® homes to be used as transitional housing. Affiliates receiving home donations will be announced in the coming months.
