Summit, NJ – July 7, 2021 – This week, Family Promise and Help Us Move In (HUMI) have announced the renewal of their challenge grants program. The program, which was founded in 2016, uses seed funding and community collaboration to introduce or strengthen eviction prevention and rehousing programs at Family Promise Affiliates across the U.S.
Help Us Move In (HUMI) is a nonprofit “on a mission helping children to escape homelessness by engaging communities in sustainable solutions.” To date, Family Promise Affiliates who have received funding through the HUMI partnership have served more than 4,692 families, including 10,647 children.
Over the course of two years, HUMI offers $20,000 in Homeless No More Challenge Grants to Affiliates. In the five-year partnership, 69 Family Promise Affiliates have received HUMI challenge grants, receiving over $1,000,000 in HUMI funds.
Sarah Scherer, HUMI’s executive director, thinks the timing could not be better. “The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the relationship between housing and health, increasing public awareness to the unavoidable priority of stabilization and the necessity of prevention. HUMI is dedicated to eradicating childhood homelessness and partnering with Family Promise is the perfect pathway towards accomplishing that goal. We are elated to offer an additional 13 Affiliates our Homeless No More Challenge Grant!”
The community match component ensures that Affiliates engage local stakeholders and organizations to provide sustainable services to families and continue to expand programming in the future. To date, HUMI-funded Affiliates have matched the HUMI grants with more than $4,547,860 in community matches. Combined, the Affiliates have dedicated more than $5.5 million towards Prevention and Stabilization.
Our partnership with HUMI has been a catalyst for significant program change nationally,” said Claas Ehlers, CEO of Family Promise, “and has helped prevent and end homelessness for thousands of children. We are thrilled to continue? this innovative and much-needed program as we all work to make sure children are homeless no more.”
