SUMMIT, New Jersey, October 3, 2023 – Family Promise and Help Us Move In (HUMI) are continuing their partnership that first began in 2017. Thirteen additional Family Promise Affiliates have been selected to receive HUMI grants to support their work in homelessness prevention and stabilization. Eight Family Promise Affiliates received grants earlier this year.
HUMI is a nonprofit on a mission to help children escape homelessness by engaging communities in sustainable solutions. The goal of the HUMI grant is to develop a sustainable prevention and housing program in each community that leverages local support for programs.
“In 2016, Help Us Move In joined with Family Promise, and our amazing partnership has resulted in helping over 27,000 children and their families to avoid homelessness,” said Burt Sarver, HUMI Chairman of the Board.
As of September 2023, 103 Family Promise Affiliates have received HUMI grants, and the partnership has raised nearly $13 million to fund Family Promise programs. These grants have enabled Family Promise Affiliates to serve 12,951 families, including 26,869 children.
“Help Us Move In has granted almost two million dollars to Family Promise Affiliates and generated 12.5 million dollars with our matching model and the amazing support of communities,” said Sarah Scherer, HUMI Executive Director.
“Our partnership with HUMI not only advances our work to prevent families from experiencing the traumatic loss of a home, it also helps raise awareness about a crisis that is often invisible or overlooked,” said Family Promise Chief Program Officer Sandra Miniutti. “We’ve seen an increased demand for services to support families facing homelessness in recent years. Thanks to our work with HUMI, we’re serving more families than ever, which means more families than ever can look toward a brighter future.”

About Help Us Move In
Help Us Move In (HUMI) began in Olympia, Washington, in 2000 and expanded in the last six years, awarding the Homeless No More Matching Grant to over 100 national locations. HUMI provides a two-year cycle grant that will match funds raised within the community dollar for dollar and assists the grantee with set up of the program, fundraising, reporting and accounting requirements. The goal of the matching grant is to create a foundation of community support for a sustainable program whereby families with children experiencing a housing crisis can receive case management and assistance with eviction prevention, utilities, and move-in costs out of homelessness.
