Introducing our Keynote Speaker: Shane Claiborne

Prominent speaker and activist to speak at September 2020 conference on family homelessnessWhat Happens in Vegas Changes the Future

SUMMIT, NJ –JANUARY 27, 2020 – Family Promise, the nation’s leading nonprofit addressing family homelessness, announced Shane Claiborne as the keynote speaker at their September 2020 conference in Las Vegas, NV.

Shane Claiborne, the founder of The Simple Way, is a prominent speaker, activist, and best-selling author. He has been featured in a number of films including “Another World Is Possible” and “Ordinary Radicals.” His books have been translated into more than a dozen languages. Shane speaks over one hundred times a year, nationally and internationally. His work has appeared in Esquire, SPIN, Christianity Today, TIME, and The Wall Street Journal, and he has been on everything from Fox News and Al Jazeera to CNN and NPR.

“Our national conferences have had an array of leaders—from the faith community, politics, activism—speak as keynoters. This year, we are excited to have Shane Claiborne, who not only challenges us to consider the root causes of homelessness but also has a direct connection to our work—his mother is a long-time Family Promise volunteer in his native Tennessee,” said Claas Ehlers, chief executive officer of Family Promise.

“Claiborne’s messages are powerful and inspiring. As he has stated, when we engage directly and in relation with families in poverty, ‘we start to ask why people are poor, which is never as popular as giving to charity.’ We echo that belief as we strive to reduce housing instability and address the full range of issues that create and sustain poverty. Even if it is unpopular.”

The Family Promise National Conference offers members of the Family Promise network—working in more than 200 communities— the opportunity to come together and share best practices, resources, and key learnings across Affiliates nationwide. This year’s conference, which will run from September 29 – October 2, will be held at the M Resort just outside of Las Vegas and will feature panels and sessions led by members of the Family Promise network and leaders working towards ending family homelessness nationwide.
